The Foreign Minister of Armenia Met with the President of the German Bundestag

On June 28, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who was in Berlin on an official visit, met with President of German Bundestag Wolfgang Schäuble.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Wolfgang Schäuble commended the active Armenian-German parliamentary cooperation and valued the established reliable collaboration.

Foreign Minister Mnatsakanyan presented Armenia’s recent internal developments. The head of the Foreign Ministry reaffirmed  the commitment of Armenia’s new government to fulfill the mandate given by the people and through reforms to further strengthen the democratic processes, rule of law, protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms, ensure justice and fight against corruption. The President of the German Bundestag welcomed the peaceful nature of changes that took place in Armenia as well as their accordance with the Constitution and the laws.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia and the President of Bundestag touched upon the Armenia-EU cooperation. Within that context Minister Mnatsakanyan underlined the importance of Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement which not only constitutes a new legal basis for the relations but also is an important tool for Armenia to encourage reforms and partnership. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan presented the developments with regards the ratification of the agreement by EU member states, expressing hope that the German Parliament too will ratify the agreement in the near future.

At the request of Bundestag President Schäuble, Minister Mnatsakanyan presented Armenia’s foreign policy priorities as well as its position on regional and international issues and approaches to their solutions.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan briefed  Wolfgang Schäuble on Armenia’s position regarding the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict reiterating the commitment of the Armenian side to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict within the frameworks of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. The Minister stressed the necessity of establishing an environment conducive to peace for the success of the negotiation process.
