Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Chairman of the German-Armenian Forum

On June 28, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who arrived in Berlin on an official visit, met with Albert Weiler, the Chairman of the German-Armenian Forum.

Greeting the Chairman Weiler, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan commended the high level of cooperation between Armenia and Germany, noting the significant contribution in this regard of the German-Armenian Forum, which has been active since 2015. The Minister underlined that Armenia values ​​the role of Germany as an important partner of Armenia both in political and economic terms.

Albert Weiler briefed Minister Mnatsakanyan on the activities of the Forum and forthcoming programmes aimed at the expansion of Armenian-German political, economic, cultural, scientific-educational ties and promotion of a multidimensional cooperation.

In the context of adoption by the German Bundestag of the Resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Minister Mnatsakanyan underscored that this resolution is of great importance for the Armenian people in terms of restoring justice, and at the same time it is an important contribution of Germany to the promotion of the Genocide prevention agenda, where Armenia is among the pioneers.

Referring to recent developments in Armenia, Minister Mnatsakanyan noted that the new Government has proved its commitment to eradicating corruption, to ensuring justice, equality for everyone in the economic and social sphere. The Minister underlined that the Armenian authorities attach great importance to the support of international partners in their efforts.

The interlocutors touched upon Armenia-EU relations. In this context the Armenian Foreign Minister noted that parliaments of a number of EU countries have already ratified the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, and now Armenia expects that the  Bundestag too will ratify the agreement.

The Armenian Foreign Minister briefed the Chairman of the German-Armenian Forum on the Armenia's approaches and priorities regarding the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which are aimed at exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, as well as the steps that are being undertaken in that direction.
