06 June, 2017

On June 6, while on a working visit to Rome, Edward Nalbandian, Foreign Minister of Armenia, had a meeting with a group of Italian Parliamentarians, representing various parties.

In the course of talks, a detailed discussion was held on the parliamentary collaboration between the two countries and steps undertaken towards its promotion.

Foreign Minister of Armenia touched upon the centuries-old history of the Armenian-Italian relations, indicating that during 25 years following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Italy the two countries formed a close cooperation, and the high-level mutual visits held in recent years attest to that.

Minister Nalbandian expressed his satisfaction at holding of the Armenia-Italy Intergovernmental session and expressed hope that it will be an effective format for the further development of relations and deepening of collaboration in various fields.

Minister Nalbandian touched upon the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on April 2, emphasizing that they were marked by an unprecedented number of international observers, who stated that the elections were well-organized, fundamental freedoms were respected and the results reflect the will of the people.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia highlighted the importance of support the European Union provided for the purpose of assisting in the organisation of elections.

Edward Nalbandian briefed the Italian Parliamentarians on the efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries towards an exclusively peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He attached importance to the support of Italy, which will assume the OSCE Chairmanship next year, to the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

During the meeting, a number of urgent regional and international issues, as well as approaches of Armenia and Italy towards their settlement were touched upon.
