The newly appointed Greek Ambassador presented the copies of his credentials to the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs
17 October, 2012On October 17, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian received Ioannis Tragakis, the newly appointed Ambassador of Greece to Armenia on the occasion of presenting the copies of his credentials.
Congratulating the Ambassador on the occasion of his appointment, Minister Nalbandian expressed confidence that during his mission the traditionally warm and friendly Armenian-Greek relations would be further expanded and strengthened. The Minister mentioned as well that Armenia attaches great importance to the continuing development of the centuries-old friendship of the two peoples and the interstate cooperation based on common values.
Ambassador Tragakis expressed gratitude for the reception and assured that he would do his utmost for the strengthening of the relations with friendly Armenia and raising of them to a qualitatively new level.
During the talk, it was underlined that the state visit of the President of Armenia to Greece, the agreements reached during the visit and signed documents provided an important impetus to the interstate relations.
Minister Nalbandian reconfirmed the invitation presented to the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Dimitris L. Avramopoulos to visit Yerevan during their meeting on September 28 in New York. During the meeting mutually satisfaction was expressed about the existing political dialogue between the two countries, inter-parliamentary ties and high-level military cooperation.
The sides touched upon the cooperation between Armenia and the European Union, too. In this regard, it was mutually stressed that Armenia is one of the leading countries in terms of its progress made within the frames of the Eastern Partnership. Minister Nalbandian added that the negotiations over the Association agreement are heading to a conclusion and the pre-signing of the Agreement on visa regime facilitation is scheduled the following day in Brussels. Edward Nalbandian informed that the negotiations over the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area are dynamically and constructively progressing.
The Armenian Minster of Foreign Affairs and Greek Ambassador exchanged views on regional and global developments.
