The meetings of the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs in Kinshasa
14 October, 2012In the frames of the 14th Summit of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), being held in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian had several bilateral meetings.
On October 14 in Kinshasa Edward Nalbandian met with Denis Sassou-Nguesso, the President of the Republic of the Congo. The leader of Congo congratulated the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the membership to the OIF and expressed hope that Armenia in its new status would further develop its relations with the Francophonie world. Edward Nalbandian, on his part, noted that Armenia attaches great importance to the development of the relations with the African continent and would intensify undertaking steps towards that direction.
During the talk, the sides touched upon the possibilities of the creation of legal framework and establishment of business contacts between the two states, as well as agreed to accredit non-resident ambassadors in Brazzaville and Yerevan, and through the MFAs to make the steps towards developing cooperation between Armenia and the Republic of the Congo in various spheres.
During the meeting between Edward Nalbandian and Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad-Eddine Al-Othmani, the ways to develop bilateral cooperation, to expand legal framework and to promote interaction in the spheres of trade and economy, science and education, culture and tourism were discussed.
Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Morocco exchanged views on the developments unrolling in North Africa and their impact on regional security.
Saad-Eddine Al-Othmani informed about Morocco’s approaches on Western Sahara. Edward Nalbandian, on his part, informed about the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and the efforts undertaken by Armenia and the international community towards its settlement.
The talk with Djibril Bassolé, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, was dedicated to the cooperation in international organizations, and the creation of bilateral legal basis. A commitment to undertake efficient steps towards the intensification of relations was mutually expressed.
In Kinshasa, Edward Nalbandian had a meeting with Daniel Kablan Duncan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cote d’Ivoire, as well. The Ministers stated that there is a potential for the development of interaction, which, by common efforts, should be not only disclosed, but also implemented. The sides agreed to establish business ties between the two countries, as well as to create appropriate legal framework, and to hold consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
