The meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Japan
06 June, 2012Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian who is in Tokyo as a member of the delegation led by the Armenian President, had a meeting with Koichiro Gemba, the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Japan on June 6.
The Foreign Ministers highly assessed the dialogue established between the two countries stressing the symbolism of the visit of Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the Republic of Armenia to Japan as it is taking place on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Japan.
Ministers Nalbandian and Gemba had a thorough talk on the steps to be undertaken towards the further development of the bilateral relations.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Japan attached importance to the singing of a Memorandum between the MFAs of the two countries ahead of the meeting.
The sides expressed confidence that that document would contribute to the closer cooperation between their Ministries, as well as the intensification of political consultations.
Issues related to the Korean Peninsula and South Caucasus, as well as the efforts being undertaken toward their solutions were on the agenda of the talks, too.
In the course of the meeting the Foreign Ministers touched upon the Armenian-Japanese interaction and mutual cooperation in supporting each other’s candidates.
The Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs invited his Japanese counterpart to visit Yerevan.
