The Foreign Minister of Armenia receives the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons
17 September, 2010 On September 17, the Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received Walter Kälin, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons, who is in Armenian with a regional visit.
Edward Nalbandian thanked Mr. Kälin for his activity and expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation with the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons that lasts many years.
On Walter Kälin’s request, Minister Nalbandian touched upon the recent developments in the settlement of the Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) issues and within that context the Minister mentioned that the Government of Armenia considers a priority the settlement of problems of 450.000 forcefully and internally displaced persons from Azerbaijan in the result of the conflict by emphasizing that Armenia, unlike Azerbaijan, has never manipulated the human destinies and has not used them for primitive propaganda, on the contrary Armenia has tried maximally to solve their problems within the frames of its resources.
Walter Kälin, stressing the effectiveness of cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Office on Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons, mentioned that the Office would continue to support the implementation of different programmes in Armenian aimed at the settlement of problems of internally displaced persons.
