09 July, 2010On July 9, the Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received Peter Maurer, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Federation.
Welcoming the guest, Minister Nalbandian mentioned with satisfaction that the Armenian-Swiss cooperation is dynamically developing; intensive political dialogue is maintained in the format of bilateral meetings, as well as within the framework of international institutions.
Expressing his gratitude for a warm reception, the Swiss Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs reiterated that his country is interested in the expansion of friendly cooperation developed with Armenia, which was the reason of establishing the Swiss diplomatic representation in Yerevan.
Edward Nalbandian and Peter Maurer attached importance to the intensification of mutual visits on a high level, improvement of the legal field as a guarantee for the further enhancement of comprehensive cooperation.
The Minister and the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs touched upon the steps that are to be undertaken for the promotion of trade and economic relations by attaching importance to the initiatives of business groups in that area and the organization of forums.
Minister Nalbandian commended the mediation efforts of Switzerland in the process of the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations.
The Armenian Foreign Minister and the Swiss Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs exchanged views on the regional issues of the South Caucasus and the ways of their settlement.
Within that context on the guest’s request Minister Nalbandian presented the recent developments in the process of settlement of the Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) issue.
Peter Maurer also visited the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he delivered a lecture on the foreign policy of Switzerland.
