06 May, 2010On May 6, the reception organized by the Foreign Ministry of Armenia and the delegation of the European Union in Yerevan took place at the reception hall of the Foreign Ministry. Members of the Armenian Government, Memebers of Parliament, Ambassadors accredited in Yerevan, as well as Representatives of International and Non-Governmental organizations attended the reception.
At the reception, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian delivered a speech.
In his speech Minister Nalbandian expressed satisfaction that the organization of the event dedicated to the Europe Day become a tradition in Armenia. Moreover, it is symbolic that this year for the first time it is organized together with the EU delegation at the Foreign Ministry of Armenia, which by Minister’s definition is the evidence of Armenia’s willingness to deepen integration with the family of the European nations and actively participate in the construction of the common future of Europe. But at the same time it also expresses the support of the European family for Armenia’s efforts undertaken in that direction.
Speaking on Armenia-European Union relations, Edward Nalbandian said. “As ancient is the European continent, so old are the ties of Armenia and the Armenian nation with Europe. They go back to the depth of centuries to the times when the enlightened sons of our nation had their participation in the formation of value system, which today are called the European values.
Today Armenia is the member of the key institutions of the continent – the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, has its input to their activity, as well as the formation of the all-European agenda on issues of strengthening security and democracy.
We greatly appreciate the continuous deepening of relations with the European Union. Close political dialogue and cooperation on the highest level are established between the European Union and Armenia. And the forthcoming visit of the President of Armenia to Brussels is aimed at the more strengthening, broadening and deepening of that cooperation in different areas”.
Ambassador Raul de Luzenberger, the Head of the EU delegation to Armenia also made welcoming remarks. He appreciated the organization of the event with the Foreign Ministry, which is the evidence of strengthening cooperation between Armenia and the European Union.
