On March 25, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian who is in Moscow on a working visit participated in the informal meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The Foreign Ministers of the CSTO countries discussed the process of implementation of decisions of the Collective Security Council, issues concerning the coordination of foreign policy of the Organization's member states, support for the initiatives of Kazakhstan - the OSCE chairing
country and promotion of the joint priorities. Ministers touched upon the current situation in Afghanistan by attaching importance to the efforts aimed at the strengthening of stability.


At the meeting, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian delivered a speech in which he attached importance to the CSTO's increasing authority in international arena, mentioning that the adoption of resolution on cooperation between the CSTO and the UN by the UN General Assembly, as well as the signing of declaration on cooperation between the Secretariats
of the two organizations are the evidence of that.
Touching upon the project of elaborating the European Security Treaty Armenian Foreign Minister said. "Armenia considers timely and important the initiative of the Russian side in which the principle of indivisibility of security is secured. The equality of all the principles of international law and the exception of subordination of one principle to another should be fixed in the Treaty".
Ministers adopted a number of statements - the Declaration of the CSTO Foreign Ministers on the 65th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, on the partnership in the elaboration of European Security Treaty, the upcoming conference on Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to be held in 2010 and the support for the initiatives of Kazakhstan - the OSCE chairing country aimed at the strengthening of the role of the Organization.

On the same day, Minister Nalbandian had a meeting with Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov. In the course of warm and direct talks, they discussed a number of bilateral, regional and international issues.
Ministers Lavrov and Nalbandian had a detailed discussion on the process of settlement of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) issue on the base of the Madrid proposals. The two mentioned that the peaceful settlement of the conflict has no alternative.

In Moscow Edward Nalbandian visited the Armenian Embassy where he held a consultation with the participation of the staff of the Embassy. During the consultation, the priorities of Armenia's foreign policy were discussed and relevant instructions were given to more deepening and strengthening allied relationship with Russia.
