Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Qocharyan on a question by Armenpress News Agency

14 January, 2010

Question: Mr. Qocharyan, 20 years ago mass massacres and displacements of Armenians took place in Baku. What assessment can you give to that crime under today?

Answer: The events that took place in Baku 20 years ago in response to the demand of the people of Nagorno Karabakh for self-determination was the next monstrous manifestation of Azerbaijan’s policy of use of force and ethnic cleansings carried out just from the beginning.

The result of that was the forcible displacement of approximately 400.000 Armenians, a large-scale military aggression against self-determined Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, which caused heavy human and material losses.

The fact, that instead of admitting its guilty and responsibility for the committed crimes and unleashed aggression Azerbaijan continues anti-Armenian hysteria and war mongering, is the evidence that Baku still continues to pose a threat to both its own people and the entire region.
