Foreign Minister of Armenia received non-resident Ambassadors accredited to Armenia
20 September, 2009On September 20, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received Ambassadors of several countries accredited to Armenia with residence in other cities ( Australia, Republic of Benin, Republic of Estonia, Kingdom of Spain, Republic of Latvia, State of Qatar, republic of Hungary, Republic of South Africa, Czech Republic, State of Kuwait, Republic of Cyprus, Republic of Korea and Republic of Serbia), who were in Yerevan to participate in the events dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia.
In the course of the meeting Minister Nalbandian presented the main directions and priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy, underlining that the Armenian diplomacy is aimed at the establishment of peace, cooperation and stability in the region, the deepening of Armenia’s involvement in international processes.
On Ambassadors’ request Edward Nalbandian presented the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations – the way passed in the direction of establishment of normal relationship stressing that the sides started and conducted negotiations and reached agreements with mutual understanding that the relations should be normalized and borders should be opened without preconditions and that any step back from that principle could threaten the whole process.
Ambassadors expressed their support for the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations and expressed hope that the sides will go forward by respecting agreements.
During the meeting they touched upon the recent developments and perspectives in the negotiations aimed at the settlement of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) issue. Presenting the approaches of the Armenian side Edward Nalbandian mentioned that the key to the settlement of the conflict is the status of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) and the mutual understanding in this question will create basis for the settlement of the issue based on the principles of international law.
Minister Nalbandian and Ambassadors accredited to Armenia also exchanged views on number of regional and international issues.
