Foreign Minister of Armenia visits Bucharest

On July 10, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian paid a  short visit to Bucharest and had a meeting with his Romanian counterpart Cristian Diaconescu.

The agenda of the meeting between Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Romania included a wide range of issues related to the development of bilateral relations, Armenia-European Union cooperation as well as regional and international problems.

The Ministers stressed that the existing reach legal field between Armenia and Romania allows to take efficient steps in the direction of the expansion of partnership. Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Romania discussed the possibilities of deepening of cooperation in economic, educational and cultural areas.

Ministers Nalbandian and Diaconescu had a discussion on the process of Armenia-European Union cooperation and bilateral relations within that framework. In this regard, Minister Nalbandian noted the importance of having free trade agreement with the EU and the visa facilitation with the EU member-states.

The two exchanged views on the European security and its mechanisms. Within this context, Armenian Foreign Minister attached importance to the enhancement of existing the arms control mechanisms.

Edward Nalbandian presented to his Romanian counterpart the recent developments in the negotiation process of the settlement of Artsakh issue and the efforts taken by Armenia for the normalization with Turkey.

On Armenian Foreign Minister’s request Cristian Diaconescu presented the perspectives and the current state of Romanian-Moldavian relationship as well as Romania’s position on the processes inside the European Union.

In the course of the meeting the Ministers touched upon several international and regional issues.

The meeting of the Ministers was followed by a joint press conference.

After the negotiations with Foreign Minister of Romania Minister Edawrd Nalbandian met with the President of the Senate, Mircea Geoana. 

During the meeting, they had detailed talks on the steps to be taken for the development of bilateral relations in different areas as well as attached importance to the intensification of political dialogue and interparliamentary ties.

Edward Nalbandian and Mircea Geoana exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, which are of mutual interest.
 
Foreign Minister of Armenia visited the Armenian Church in Bucharest where he had a meeting with the representatives of the Romanian Armenian community.

On the same day, in the evening Edward Nalbandian returned Yerevan.
