Armenian Foreign Minister and Minister of Defense participate in the session of the North-Atlantic Council

On May 20, the session of North-Atlantic Council in 28+1 format took place at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan, representatives of NATO 28 member-states attended the session.

At the session Armenian Foreign and Defense Ministers delivered speeches. Foreign Minister Nalbandian touched upon political dialogue between Armenia  and  NATO, the priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy, the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations and possibilities of settlement of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) issue, as well as issues concerning the establishment of security and stability in the region. Armenian Defense Minister in his speech presented the process and perspectives of reforms implemented in the area of security and defense systems.
During the session eighteen representatives of NATO member-states took the floor at the l. They highly appreciated the results of IPAP’s implementation, the process of reforms carried out in Armenia. They also touched upon some regional issues, as well as the participation of Armenian Armed Forces in peacekeeping operations.

Afterwards Ministers Nalbandian and Ohanyan answered numerous questions concerning country’s foreign policy, regional developments, reforms implemented in Armenia in different areas. The members of the North-Atlantic Council expressed their support for the steps aimed at the full normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations and encourage the authorities of Armenia and Turkey to accomplish the process of normalization of relations.

Before the session of the North-Atlantic Council, Armenian Foreign and Defense Ministers Edward Nalbandian and Seyran Ohanyan had a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. During the meeting, they discussed Armenia-NATO cooperation within the frameworks of Partnership for Peace program and Individual Partnership Action Plan.
