Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia held a meeting in Bishkek
11 October, 2008On October 10 Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Foreign Ministers Edward Nalbandian, Elmar Mammadyarov and Sergey Lavrov hold a trilateral meeting within the framework of CIS Ministerial Council session, which takes place in Bishkek.
After the meeting on the request of Armenian journalists Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian commented on current stage of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) peace process.
Answering the question about the opinions raised in different capitals that main issues of Nagorno Karabakh problem have been agreed, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said that at the meeting they discussed details of negotiations on settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh problem based on Madrid Proposals of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs. He added: “As for the statements that the main issues of Nagorno Karabakh problem have been agreed, I have already said and I’d like to repeat - the key issue of Nagorno Karabakh problem is the status, which should be defined by Nagorno Karabakh people through free expression of its will. And if there are opinions that main issues are settled then we can conclude that there is an understanding on those issues”.
As for the views of some analysts that Armenia is in a non-favorable position in current stage of negotiations, Armenian Foreign Minister said that he does not consider that those are serious analyses, moreover, those are results of ill imagination.
Touching upon the meeting which was held before presidential elections in Azerbaijan and possible influence of elections on the peace process, Minister Nalbandian mentioned that after the elections, negotiations will enter more active phase and it will be possible to organize new meetings
