The delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Kirakossian participates in International Atomic Energy Agency’s 52-nd General Conference
04 October, 2008On October 3, Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Kirakossian headed Armenian delegation for the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) 52-nd General Conference in Vienna.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Kirakossian presented the issues and projects for the cooperation between Armenia and IAEA, exploitation of Armenian nuclear station and its protection, as well as works connected with construction of new nuclear station. In his speech Deputy Foreign Minister also touched upon the projects of cooperation with Russia, the USA and European Union on exploitation of acting nuclear station and construction of a new nuclear station.
On 1st of October Dr. Kirakossian had a meeting with Anita Nilsson, Head of the IAEA’s Office of Nuclear Security, during which he discussed issues connected with cooperation on Armenian Nuclear Station Security. After the meeting the delegation headed by Arman Kirakossian participated in the signing ceremony of the agreement between IAEA, Armenian nuclear station and Armenian “EnergyRepairGarant” Company.
The agreement is a program directed to improvement of Armenia’s NPPs’ physical protection system, which is the biggest program of IAEA in that area. The cost of the program is 1580000 euro, which was provided by British government to IAEA Nuclear Security Fund.
In Vienna Deputy Minister Kirakossian had a meeting with Johannes Kyrle, Secretary-General of Austrian Foreign Ministry. In the course of the meeting the two discussed the perspectives of the development of Armenian-Austrian bilateral relations, the opportunities of cooperation between Armenian and Austria within the framework of European Neighbourhood policy program, as well as recent regional developments.
