Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian visits Tbilisi
17 September, 2008On September 12th Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian started his visit to Georgia.
Just after the arrival in Tbilisi arrival to Georgia Edward Nalbandian had a meeting with Eka Tkeshelashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
The two had a detailed discussion on the recent regional developments and the possible ways of overcoming current situation. In this context, the head of Armenian diplomacy expressed hope that the efforts of the international community aimed at peaceful settlement of existing problems will pave a way for the solution only through peaceful means, negotiations and dialogue.
Minister Nalbandian expressed his gratitude to the Georgian authorities for their support in secure return of Armenian tourists to Armenia from Ajaria. On the request of Eka Tkeshelashvili Minister Nalbandian presented the recent developments of Nagorno Karabakh peace process, as well as the possibilities of normalization of Armenian – Turkish relations.
The two also touched upon the cooperation of Armenia and Georgia in international organizations.
Edward Nalbandian invited his Georgian counterpart to visit Armenia. The Ministers’ meeting was followed by a press conference.
Edward Nalbandians’ next meeting was with Lado Gurgenidze, the Georgian Prime Minister. In the course of talks in Georgian Government, Armenian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of normal operation of import and export routes through Georgian territory, and thanked Georgian Government for reparation of the damaged railway and readiness to cooperate with Armenia on that issue.
Edward Nalbandian and Lado Gurgenidze discussed a wide range of issues concerning the bilateral economic cooperation.
Armenian Foreign Minister and Prime Minister of Georgia also touched upon bilateral economic cooperation and underlined the necessity of organization of the next session of intergovernmental commission. They also discussed the possibility of g meeting between t Armenian and Georgian Prime Ministers.

In the evening of the same day, Mikheil Saakashvili, President of Georgia, received Minister Nalbandian.
Edward Nalbandian stressed that Armenia is one of the most interested countries in stability, security and peace in the neighbor country, not only because about 70 % Armenian trade turnover passes through the Georgian territory, but also the two neighbor countries are linked by centuries-old friendship.
On the request of President Saakashvili Minister Nalbandian presented the current situation of Nagorno Karabakh peace process and perspectives of normalization the Armenian – Turkish relations.
In the course of the meeting the two discussed the issues of the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s upcoming official visit to Georgia by the invitation of Mikheil Saakashvili.
The next day, at the Armenian Embassy in Tbilisi, Edward Nalbandian met representatives of the Armenian community in Georgia . During the meeting Minister Nalbandian presented the main directions and priorities of Armenian foreign policy. He also touched upon the functions of the Ministry of Diaspora in Armenia to be created in Armenia.
On the same day Minister Nalbandian returned Yerevan.
