Armenian Foreign Minister continues visit to Washington
16 July, 2008On July 16 Minister Edward Nalbandian who is on a visit to Washington D.C. met Daniel Fried, U.S. Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs.
The two discussed issues on Armenian – US cooperation agenda. They touched upon the issues of regional security and stability.
Minister Nalbandian and U.S. Assistant Secretary Daniel Fried exchanged opinions about the reasons and consequences of post electoral developments in Armenia and the steps undertaken by Armenian Government to overcome them.
The sides also discussed the perspectives of normalisation of Armenian – Turkish relations.
On the same day Edward Nalbandian met Matthew Bryza, U.S. Co-Chair of OSCE Minsk Group. They discussed the details of the process of settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the results of the recent visit of Co-chairs to region, as well as the possibility of a new meeting between Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers.
Touching upon the perspectives of continuation of peace talks, Minister Nalbandian stressed, that the Azerbaijani Government’s apparent territorial claims against Armenia and their militaristic rhetoric are not receiving proper reaction from the international community, and that is considerably complicating the creation of confidence atmosphere in the peace process.
On the second half of the day Minister Nalbandian had separate meetings with Heads of U.S. Armenian organizations: Armenian National Committe of America, Armenian Assembly of America and the United States – Armenian Political Action Committee. Minister Nalbandian presented the projects of Armenian Government concerning the cooperation and mutual support with Diaspora, informed about the plans of Diaspora Committee within the structure of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the goals and perspectives of creation of Diaspora Ministry.
