Minister Nalbandian’s visit to Berlin started on.

On June 30 the official visit of Minister Edward Nalbandian’s official to Germany has started.

On the first day of his visit the head of Armenian diplomacy had a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. During the meeting Ministers Nalbandian and Streinmeier, mentioned that Armenian – German relations are warm and firendly, the political dialogue between the two countries is on a high level, the cooperation on bilateral and multilateral formats is progressing effectively, a solid legal basis has been created and the business ties are also being enlarged.

Minister Nalbandian noted that Armenia attaches great importance to the deepening and strengthening the multiformat partnership with Germany, one of the founding and leading countries of the European Union. He also assured that Armenia will undertake all necessary steps in that direction. The Armenian Foreign Minister noted with satisfaction that Germany is the second biggest investor in Armenian Economy and one of main supporting countries of Armenia.

On the request of German Foreign Minister, Minister Nalbandian presented the recent developments in  Nagorno Karabakh peace process, as well as the possibilities of normalization of Armenian – Turkish relations and the steps taken by the Armenian side in that direction.

The two foreign ministers touched upon the issues of the strengthening the security and stability in our region.

The two discussed also the possibilities for the deepening of cooperation and the realization of joint programs in the areas of culture and education. In this context Minister Nalbandian noted that Armenia is stressing the importance of expansion of German language teaching in the country. He also noted the expectation of Armenian side about establishing the an office of Giotte Institute in Yerevan.

The meeting was followed by the press conference of two ministers, where the representatives of leading German Media were present.

On the same day Edward Nalbandian had meetings with the Prime Minister Angela Merkel's Foreign Policy and Security Adviser Christoph Heusgen, Reinhard Silberberg the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office and Bishop Dr. Wolfgang Huber the Chairman of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany(EKD).During these meetings questions on mutual interest were discussed.

In the evening Minister Nalbandian met the representatives of Armenian organizations of Germany. Minister Nalbandian presented the reasons of  the establishment of Diaspora committee in the structure of the Foreign Ministry, as well as expectations from the formation of the Diaspora Ministry as a step to the strengthen Armenian – Diaspora ties.
