Foreign Minister Oskanian Received Peace Corps Country Director Lee Lacy

On September 11, 2007, Minister Oskanian received Lee Lacy, Country Director for the US Peace Corps Program in Armenia.

Welcoming the guest, Foreign Minister expressed his great appreciation for the work that the Peace Corps has done in Armenia over the last 15 years.

Ms. Lacy explained that Peace Corps volunteers in the regions engage in providing English language classes for children, immersion classes for teachers of English, community and health education classes, as well as community and business development training.  She said the volunteers also run summer camps and teach the process of establishing and running camps.   

Ms. Lacy stated that there are 87 volunteers in Armenia currently, ranging in age from  early 20s to 50 plus. Ms. Lacy said the volunteers were very pleased and satisfied with the support received from the residents of the rural communities.

Upon the guest’s request, the Minister outlined the Rural Development Program of the Armenia Fund, which entails infrastructure and economic development assistance in Armenia’s border communities.
