Minister Oskanian Met with NATO Secretary General

Foreign Minister Oskanian met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in Brussels on September 4, 2007.

Minister Oskanian began by stressing the importance of activities already implemented within the Armenia-NATO  Individual Partnership Action Plan, particularly the elaboration of  Armenia’s National Security Strategy, the opening of  the NATO Information center in Yerevan, the  Crisis Management Situation Center creation process, as well as legislative initiatives concerning improvements in the defense sphere.

The two spoke about organizing Armenia-NATO political consultations in the 26+1 format – between Armenia and NATO partner countries.

    

They also discussed some issues concerning Armenia’s participation in peacekeeping actions.

The Secretary General of NATO presented his assessment of the cooperation between the Alliance and South Caucasus states in the run-up to the April 2008 NATO summit.

The two discussed Kosovo, the situation in Afghanistan as well as other regional developments.
