Comment by MFA Press Secretary Anna Naghdalyan on the latest statement of the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan

25 June, 2019

Question: How would you comment on the latest statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan related to the consultations held in Washington DC.

Response: The claims made by the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan do not correspond to reality. Such approaches are counterproductive, which devalues the seriousness of the peace process.

As we mentioned before the meeting in Washington DC, during those consultations issues related to the de-escalation of situation exacerbated recently because of the Azerbaijani side were discussed. The Co-Chairs urged to take immediate measures to restore an environment conducive to peace and maintain the ceasefire regime, and in this regard, presented concrete proposals related to humanitarian field and risk reduction. The misleading claims by the Azerbaijani side beyond these framework lead to the conclusion that Azerbaijan does not intend to implement the calls and proposals of the Co-Chairs.

Moreover, the claim that the negotiations can successfully evolve under the systematic violations of the ceasefire regime seriously damages the efforts being undertaken towards the settlement and undermine the peace process.
