Comment by MFA Spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan regarding the statement made by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan

23 April, 2019

Question: The Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan announced that the document between the EU and Azerbaijan states about the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. How would you comment that?

Answer: Firstly, let me note that texts, which are being negotiated between the EU and partner countries, are not public and are available only to the parties involved in the process.

Regarding the position of the European Union on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process, it is clearly stated in the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, which among the principles of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict also refers to the right to self-determination. Moreover, this position has also been repeatedly reiterated in the statements of the EU high-level officials, in which they support the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

Armenia has repeatedly emphasized at different levels and platforms and once again underscores that we consider unacceptable a double standard position on this issue, which can contradict to the approaches of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs, which enjoys the international mandate on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, and hinder the peace process.
