Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia with the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement16 November, 2023
On November 15, in Brussels, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement.
During the meeting, issues on the comprehensive agenda of the Armenia-EU partnership were discussed. Interlocutors exchanged views on the ongoing dialogue and prospects of enhancing the cooperation in the fields of mutual interest. In this context, the importance of the second high-level Armenia-EU Political and Security Dialogue was emphasised, which took place on November 15, in Brussels.
In order to develop Armenia-EU trade and economic relations the effective realization of flagship initiatives of 2.6 billion euros in the framework of the EU Economic and Investment Plan (EIP) was emphasised. From the point of view of ensuring the effectiveness of regional programs, Minister Mirzoyan emphasised the importance of Armenia’s joining the Black Sea Electricity Cable project in line with the joint statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of the European Commission, made recently in October.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia presented also the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, which not only has the potential to provide economic advantages to the countries of the region, but also become an important guarantee for peace. International efforts towards the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan were touched upon.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and the European Commissioner discussed also the issues of addressing the needs and rights of more than 100,000 Armenian refugees forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh as a result from the ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan, and the steps implemented with the support of international partners.
