The agenda of the bilateral intergovernmental commission was significantly expanded with the suggestion of the Armenian side, thus launching a new format of relations - the US-Armenia Strategic Dialogue (USASD). The first session of the strategic dialogue took place in Yerevan in May 2019.In 2020 the USASD sessions were online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
