Iran
General Information
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran were established on February 9, 1992.
Since December, 1992, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia has been operating in Tehran. Arsen Avagyan is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran, since October 8, 2021.
Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia, since January 22, 2022.
Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran was established in Kapan on October 20, 2022.
The fundamental document signed between the two countries on February 1992 is “The Declaration on Principles and Aims of Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
The Armenian Government will take steps to ensure further development of special relations with Iran as recorded in the programme of the Government of the Republic of Armenia for 2021-2026.
An interparliamentary friendship group has been established between Armenia and Iran. There is a regular intergovernmental joint committee between the two countries, the 17th session of which was held in Yerevan on May 10-12, 2022.
The regular meetings and contacts between the high-ranking officials, heads of sectoral departments of the Republic of Armenia, contribute to the development of multifaceted political-economic cooperation.

Legal Framework
There are about 180 international treaties, agreements, memorandums and protocols covering almost all the spheres of mutual relations between RA and IRI.
Trade and economic relations
Effective cooperation between the two countries has been particularly focused on energy, transport, environmental protection, inter-regional, scientific-educational and cultural spheres. The implemented programs are the following: a bridge connecting Iran with Armenia, built on Arax River, wind power stations in Pushkin mountain pass, Iran-Armenia “Gas for Electricity” deal (three kilowatt hours of electricity for one cubic meter of imported gas), first and second lines of Armenia-Iran high voltage power transmission line and construction of the third line is in process. Tourism is one of the favorable conditions for development of trade and economic ties, in which the indicators of arrivals from Iran to Armenia are prevailing.

The main products imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran are
gas, oil products, bitumen, polymers, fertilizers, building materials, economic products, fruits and vegetables.
The main products exported from the Republic of Armenia are
electricity, meat, wood, metal waste, mechanical equipment, coffee, mineral water.
