Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Guatemala were established on June 29, 1998.
On 27 September, 2013 the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala to the Republic of Armenia Herbert Estuardo Meneses Coronado (residence in Moscow) presented his credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.
On 26 June, 2014 Grigor Hovhannisyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to United States of Mexico was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Guatemala.
On October 25, 2018, the first political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Armenia and Guatemala were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala.
