In many cases crimes against survivors continue throughout ensuing years, even decades of the genocidal acts. I am talking about the attempts to conceal or deny committed crimes. Unequivocally, this is a violation of the survivors’ right to remembrance. As long as it continues, survivors and their descendants remain in the status of victims of the crime.

The Human Rights Council recommended the UN General Assembly to proclaim December 9, the day when the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was adopted, as the International Day of Commemoration of the Victims of Genocide.
