Remarks by the Foreign Minister on the occasion of the National Day of Japan

04.12.2017

Honorable Mr. Ambassador and Mrs. Taguchi,
Dear Ambassadors,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear Friends,

I cordially congratulate you on the occasion of the National Day of Japan.

In the year marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Japan, we can note with satisfaction that an effective and multifaceted interstate cooperation has been established between the two countries based on mutual respect and trust.

The official visit of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to Japan in 2012 was a turning point in the Armenian-Japanese relations. The agreements reached at the high-level meetings and the Joint Declaration adopted during the visit serve as a guideline for the upward development of cooperation between our countries.

The establishment of embassies in both countries, respectively in Tokyo in 2010 and in Yerevan in 2015, greatly contributed to the further intensification of relations, thus providing a new impetus to the cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other spheres.

From the geographical point of view, our two nations, despite distance, have a lot in common, and it is, first of all, the human potential, diligence, dedication, talent for creativity and innovation, as well as the commitment to preserve rich history, cultural heritage and system of values.

The Japanese wisdom says: "As a friend, walk on my side." As a true friend Japan has always been by Armenia’s side, by implementing numerous development projects in our country since the earthquake in 1988 and up until now aimed at boosting the ongoing reforms.

We highly appreciate this friendship.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to once again congratulate you on the occasion of the National Day of Japan and propose a toast wishing good health to His Imperial Majesty, peace and prosperity to the people of Japan, as well as further deepening and strengthening of friendly relations between our two countries.

Ome’de’to お め で と う (Congratulations)
