On December 7, Edward Nalbandian, Foreign Minister of Armenia, took part and delivered a speech at the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the countries participating in the Resolute Support Mission for providing security in Afghanistan held in Brussels, at the Headquarters of NATO and attended by Foreign Ministers of around forty NATO member and partner countries.
In his speech, Minister Nalbandian reconfirmed Armenia’s commitment to continue its assistance in the joint efforts being taken towards the establishment of security and national solidarity in Afghanistan.
Our servicemen in Afghanistan and our presence here today are the best testimonies to our enduring commitment to peace, security and stability in Afghanistan. We stand united within The Resolute Support Mission in our joint efforts to meet these objectives and help Afghan authorities to provide effective control across the country and ensure its long term safety. A lot has been achieved, however, much still needs to be done.
The security related incidents continue to take place drawing our attention to the challenges that Afghanistan faces. Alarming reports about Taliban activities and the presence of ISIS and other terrorist groups in Afghanistan are disturbing. It reminds us that insecurity in one place of the world threatens all of us, if remains unaddressed. It also strengthens our determination to continue concerted efforts in addressing security requirements of those in need. The terrorists should be deprived of the opportunity to find breeding grounds.
It is with this understanding that Armenia committed to contribute to joint efforts in maintaining international peace and security. In this regard our participation in past and present international missions ranges from Iraq to Kosovo, Lebanon and Mali.
As President of Armenia reiterated at the NATO Warsaw Summit, Armenian contingent will continue its duty with Resolute Support Mission throughout 2017 on its current strength level. We have also expressed our readiness to contribute to Enduring Partnership Mission when it will take over from the Resolute Support Mission.
Armenia continues to support the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned inclusive peace process. We are confident that with our collective efforts and firm resolve we will meet our joint objective in helping Afghan people in ensuring safety and stability”, said the Foreign Minister of Armenia.
