Born on April 3, 1948 in Yerevan

Education

In 1971 graduated from the State Engineering University (Yerevan), Department of Technical Cybernetics, as Mathematician-Engineer.

In 1975 completed his postgraduate studies at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Genetics (VNIIGenetika) (Moscow), with specialization in Molecular Genetics.

Work experience

1971-1972 - Senior Laboratory Assistant in Charentsavan branch of VNIIGenetika .

1976-1981 - Associate Scientist in the Yerevan Institute of Experimental Biology of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia and Abovyan Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

1981-1990 - Senior Scientist, Head of the Laboratory and Head of the Department in the “ArmBioTechnology” Technology Research Institute in Yerevan.

In 1990, 1995, 1999 and 2003 was elected as a Member of National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

1990-1995 - Vice-Chairman of Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia, Head of Parliamentary group “National Democrats”.

1995-1999 - Member of Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia; Secretary of National Democratic Unity (NDU).

1999-2003 - Chairman of Committee on Scientific, Educational, Cultural and Youth issues of the National Assembly of Armenia.

2003-2007 - Member of Committee on European integration and Committee on Social, Health and Environmental issues of the National Assembly of Armenia.

1992-1995 and 1999-2003 - Member of delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia to the CIS Parliamentary Assembly.

1999-2003 - Member of delegation of the National Assembly to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

2003-2005 - Member of delegation of the National Assembly to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Since 2008 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia

Since 2011 – Associate Professor of the Faculty of International Relations and Diplomacy at the Yerevan State University

Political and public activities

Since 1988 actively participated in the national movement for the democratization of Armenia and the independence of Karabakh.

1991-2001 - Member of Board of the National Democratic Unity, 1992-1993 Chairman of the party “National Democratic Unity”. Since 2001 - Chairman of the National Democratic Party.

Since 1999 - Member of "Democracy, Legal and Political Analysis Center" NGO. Since 2007 – Head of the “Democracy and Civilization” NGO

2000-2003 - Member of Board of Trustees of the Yerevan Engineering University.

Since 2009 – Member of the Board of Trustees of the Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov and Yerevan State Medical University named after Mkhitar Heratsi.

Since 2005 - Member of the Board of Trustees and lector of Yerevan School of Political Studies of the Council of Europe.
