Romania

General information

Romania recognized the independence of the Republic of Armenia on 11 December, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 17 December, 1991.

Embassy of the Republic of Armenia was opened in Bucharest on 24 April, 1994.
The Romanian Embassy in Yerevan was opened on 9 February, 1999.

On 29 March, 2010, Mr. Hamlet Gasparyan was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Romania and presented his credentials to President Traian Băsescu on 12 April.

On 5 December 2013, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Armenia Mr. Sorin Vasile presented his credentials to President Serz Sargsian.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment in 2010 trade turnover between Romania and Armenia was 13 million 300 thousand U.S. dollars* 13 million U.S. dollars of which fell to exports from Romania to Armenia, 300 thousand U.S. dollars fell to imports from Armenia to Romania. (Compared to 2009 exports from Romania to Armenia increased 6 times, import 3.8 times).
* According to the armenian official data, in January-November 2010, trade turnover amounted to 73,7 million U.S. dollars.
